NIA Programs Participate in Digital
Learning Day
On February 6th, 2013, NIA's After-school programs, along with the rest of the country, celebrated Digital Learning Day. The nationwide program, which debuted last year, aims to successfully integrate technology into the classroom.
At PS 247, NIA Activity Specialist John Nocciolo introduced the kids to robotics, part of the engineering portion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Presently, the various groups are working on recreating the Coney Island boardwalk.
At NIA's successful long running program at IS 281, NIA Tech students showcased their talents and created a video for Digital Learning Day, higlighting what the students have learned in STEM, led by instructor John Hutton, this year.
Here is a link to the video they created, we hope you enjoy it.

NIA helps students improve
through tutoring
This year, NIA’s main office began offering
one-on-one tutoring services for children in grades
K – 8. Tutoring services are tailored to meet the needs of individual students, and time
is spent with parents to provide them with additional resources they can use to support learning at home, with future plans to expand these tutoring services directly into schools.

According to the NYC Department of Education, New York City public schools are open on a regular schedule, regardless of the weather, unless there is a specific announcement that they are not. If there are to be morning closings or delays, they will be announced between 4 and 6 AM on the morning of the day of the closure.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to follow the news, check NIA social media sites and eMail, or call their child's after-school director, or the NIA office at (718) 236-5266 to find out program status.
How NIA builds communities

- NIA provides information, assistance or referral to government services and benefits available to the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers.
What people are saying
I cannot say enough about NIA's After School Program at IS 281. My son is in the 6th grade and he loves the afterschool program. Yesterday when I picked him up he was very excited to tell me about the help he received with his math homework (an area I struggle with). At NIA he welcomed the extra time. I can't thank you and the whole NIA Team enough.
