NIA's Ninth Annual Dinner a Success
On Thursday, October 4, 2007, the NIA celebrated its Ninth Annual Community Recognition Awards Dinner at Gargiulio’s Restaurant.
The NIA hosts the yearly event to celebrate the contributions of individuals and groups that have touched the lives of so many in very significant ways. This year's event was kicked off by the "Singing Policeman" Daniel Rodriguez and his glorious rendition of God Bless America followed by the NYC Sanitation Emerald Society Pipes and Drums.
This year the NIA honored a number of truly worthy recipients including NYC Department of Sanitation First Deputy Commissioner Michael A. Bimonte as the recipient of the Man of the Year Award, Camille Socci, Deputy Director of Community Relations for Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, received the Woman of the Year Award, Sylvia LaCerra, Principal of Public School 200, received the Educational Leadership Award, and George Imbriale and Thomas Lebretti, Shop Stewards of the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association, Local 831, received the Humanitarian Award.
Also recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community were the Kiwanis Club of West End Brooklyn who received the Community Leadership Award, Patrick Gambaro recipient of the Business Leadership Award, and Anthony Perrotti recipient of the Distinguished Brooklynite Award.
Among the more than 500 guests at this year's event were the officers and members of NIA’s Board of Directors, local elected officials, members from the Board of Education, including District 20 principals, school administrators, District Office staff, teachers, and PTA leaders, and representatives from the NYC Department of Sanitation, the NYC Fire Department, and the NYC Police Department.
