NIA Mission

NIA Community Services Network (formerly known as St. Rosalia-Regina Pacis Neighborhood Improvement Association) has provided services and programs in Brooklyn since 1981. The NIA provides a myriad of cost-free services to more than 3,000 clients each year in numerous after school programs, youth and family counseling services, summer day camp programs, cultural arts and recreation programs, community assistance and referral services, senior support programs, through awareness projects, special events, community meetings, and more.

A primary focus of the work we do centers around children and youth with emphasis placed on providing after school programs that foster positive youth development, teach new skills, and encourage exploration and learning. The NIA also strengthens families by encouraging parent involvement in developing initiatives that celebrate their multi-cultural community.

Since 1996, the NIA has developed many comprehensive after school programs at Brooklyn schools in Districts 20 and 21 serving thousands of youth and families and building strong collaborations with principals and district officials. In 1999, the NIA was chosen as a community partner with The After-School Corporation (TASC) to provide programming at P.S. 186 and I.S. 227 with federal 21st Century Community Learning Center funding. Currently, NIA operates OST programs at PS 229, PS 186, IS 227, and IS 281; Advantage After-School Programs at PS 204 and PS 247; and additional programs at PS 121, St. Ephrem’s, PS 176, PS 112, and New Utrecht High School.

Our excellent track record has led to recognition and awards from the Brooklyn Borough President, NYS Senate and Assembly, and the NYC Council. The NIA has also received enhancement awards and excellent ratings from public and private funding sources.

The NIA has also successfully joined with local organizations to expand its efforts in helping youth and families. Working with public officials and government offices, the NIA has assisted clients to gain access to resources and helped them obtain entitlements on an as needed basis to ensure their continued development. The NIA process utilizes a strength-based approach, consistent and meaningful family involvement, individualized planning, and encourages creative, flexible decision making.

By networking and building partnerships to identify and address pertinent quality of life issues, the NIA continues to seek the support needed to develop programs that help to educate and strengthen individuals, youth and families, improve neighborhoods and ensure a better quality of life for all.
